Hydroponic Planter

Situation
I wanted a small, self-watering hydroponic planter for my apartment that could go a month between refills.
Task
Design a 3D-printed vase insert that allows water to be wicked up to the plants as needed or completely submerge the roots.
Action
- The design is based on inexpensive dollar store glass vases.
- After measuring the dimensions with calipers, I designed a 3D model in Blender.
- The insert is very simple and consists of:
- A bowl area for the plant
- A lip that rests on the vase rim
- Holes perfectly sized for a wick to pass through
- Printed using PLA on a MakerGear M2.
