Situation
“Don’t use the big light.” I’ve been increasingly appreciating the ambiance of softer, warmer lighting in my workspace and have started turning off all of the overhead LEDs after sunset. I needed an easily printable and versatile lamp that could be placed around the house to provide warm evening light.
Task
Design a 3D-printable lamp that can be hung from the ceiling or laid flat on a desk.
Action
- Designed a smooth, minimalist pendant lamp in Blender.
- Specifically created to connect to standard pendant lamp cords.
- Features a large somewhat flat surface area to sit securely on a desk.
- Printed in vase mode (one continuous spiral) using white PLA on an Ender 3.
Result
The design is easy to print and assemble quickly, making it simple to create multiple lamps for different rooms. Paired with smart bulbs, I have several rooms set up to automatically turn on with a warm color temperature at sunset.
