Crystalline Up Close
1 min read
Situation
Large crystalline glazes look smooth at a distance and the crystals can appear fairly uniform in texture and color, but the close up structure is where things actually get interesting.
Task
Capture macro images that show both the glassy surface and the crystalline formations underneath. The photos need to be well lit and in sharp focus across the entire depth of field.
Action
- Picked out two pieces with strong crystalline growth
- Photographed the larger crystals as close as possible showing off the feather like structures
- Used a microscope and a phone camera to capture the extremely small crystals not visible to the naked eye
